The Kellys
For us, the Backdoor Bar & Grille is much more than a business. Bainbridge is home. We are Jen and Erik Kelly, both graduates of Bainbridge-Guilford High School, and today we’re raising our two boys in the same community and school district that helped raise us. Jen graduated cum laude from SUNY Oswego in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and spent nearly 15 years building and operating businesses before taking on the Backdoor. She also serves on the board of the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce and is actively involved in local events, organizations and projects focused on keeping our small town moving forward. Erik is a longtime local contractor and business owner whose skills have come in especially handy when your family decides that owning a restaurant inside a historic building sounds like a perfectly reasonable life choice. He is also an employee of the school district with the building and grounds.
When we took over the Backdoor, we weren’t simply taking over a bar and restaurant. We were becoming caretakers of a small piece of Bainbridge history. The Willsey Hall has stood through generations of change in this village, and preserving its character while building a business that can carry it into the future matters deeply to us. We’ve invested countless hours into improving the building and the Backdoor while working to keep what makes both of them special: history, character and community. We want our boys to grow up seeing that small towns don’t survive because someone else comes along and saves them. They survive because the people who call them home choose to invest in them. Our hope is that years from now, Willsey Hall is still standing, Main Street is still thriving, and the Backdoor is remembered as one of the places where Bainbridge came together.

The Backdoor Bar & Grille is your neighborhood bar, local restaurant, event space and catering kitchen all rolled into one. Our menu is built around homemade food, generous portions and plenty of variety, from burgers, sandwiches and nearly 30 wing flavors to seafood, steaks, flatbreads and rotating chef specials. Throughout the week you’ll find everything from Wing Night and Clam Night to Prime Rib, and seasonal specials, along with a full bar serving beer, wine, cocktails and local favorites. We aren’t interested in being a chain restaurant with a laminated personality. Our menu changes, we try new things, and we’re always looking for another reason to give you something worth coming back for.
But the Backdoor is about more than what’s coming out of the kitchen. We offer on-site and off-site catering, private parties and events, live music, trivia, community fundraisers, seasonal events and plenty of reasons to gather around a table. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink after work, bringing the family for dinner, planning a celebration, feeding an office or asking us to cater a few hundred people, our goal is the same: good food, fair prices and genuine hospitality without the fuss. We’re proud to be a locally owned gathering place where you’ll see familiar faces, meet a few new ones and always have something happening just around the corner.
